I hate myself. I feel crazy.

A COMEBACK STORY

They tied me to a tree in third grade. I spent the next thirty years believing them.

I hated the body I was born into. I let the wrong people in because being wanted felt like being worth something.

Then it started coming from the outside.

I moved in with a monster before I knew what he was. The job I’d given my life to helped take my life apart. Grief broke me open. Addiction came for what was left.

And right as I was pulling out, I fell for someone who put me back under.

Life became a runaway train I couldn’t stop.

This is the story of finding the will to survive when all you want to do is give up.

But more than anything, it’s about hope.

Because the stories we’re most afraid to tell are often the ones someone else needs to hear.

I am William James Cornhoff. A writer from Solon, Ohio. Founding member of the Britney Army. Proud card-carrying member of the Beyhive. And, because of a bar fight in Tijuana, an honorary member of the Southern California chapter of the Hells Angels. Allegedly.

I tell stories about the messy, complicated parts of being human. The ones we are usually taught to hide. Sometimes they’re heartbreaking. Sometimes they’re funny. Usually they’re both.

I hate myself. I feel crazy.A Comeback Story. Is my debut memoir.

I wrote it as an act of healing for myself and for anyone who’s ever felt alone. Like they didn’t belong here. Like death felt like the only way to make the pain stop.
